Sahara’s Bid for Revival Reaches Supreme Court
Sahara has approached the top court seeking permission to enter into an asset sale deal with the Adani Group. The company plans to sell around 80 properties, including marquee assets such as the Aamby Valley project, to raise funds. The petition is necessary as a previous Supreme Court order bars Sahara from transferring or selling any of its assets without prior approval.
While the deal’s valuation remains undisclosed, it is expected to be substantial. Sahara has also sought protection from parallel investigations to ensure the transaction proceeds smoothly.
In its new applications, likely to be heard later this month, the company has requested the court to set up a committee to assess and verify all claims against it. The proposed panel would also oversee the distribution of money from the Sebi–Sahara refund account and the funds raised through the asset sale, ensuring equitable payments and faster settlement of liabilities.
After remaining in cold storage for months, the long-running case could finally see movement, with a Supreme Court hearing expected after a gap of more than six months.
