The boards of Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Sir Dorabji Tata Trust are scheduled to meet on May 8 and May 12 respectively, ahead of a Tata Sons board meeting expected in June, ET Now reported, citing sources.
As per the report, the June meeting is expected to take up a potential third term for Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran. Sources told ET Now that losses at certain Tata Group companies and the question of listing Tata Sons are also likely to feature in the discussions.
At the May meetings, the trusts may consider a proposal to appoint Neville Tata to the Sir Ratan Trust, the report cited. Neville Tata and former Titan MD Bhaskar Bhat were appointed trustees at the Sir Dorabji Trust in November last year. The meetings may also address an affidavit filed by former trustee Mehli Mistry, in which he questioned the eligibility of certain trustees of the Bai Hirabai Navsari Trust, contending that only those of Zoroastrian faith and permanent residents of Mumbai may serve as trustees, the report added.
The ET Now report said, the meetings come against the backdrop of a resolution passed by the trusts in July 2025, which required trustees to vote as a bloc on key decisions, opposed listing Tata Sons, and backed a fresh five-year term for Chandrasekaran. The resolution was adopted unanimously at the time.
That consensus has since shown signs of strain. Trustees Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh have publicly backed the idea of listing Tata Sons, departing from the position taken in July. According to media reports, Noel Tata, also a signatory to the July resolution did not support Chandrasekaran's reappointment at a Tata Sons board meeting in February 2026, and instead sought a fresh business plan along with assurances against a listing.
