Key Rulings:

  • In a significant move, the Supreme Court of India allowed withdrawal of life support from Harish Rana who has been in an absolute vegetative state for over a decade. This is the first such case of allowing passive euthanasia in India even years after the right to die with dignity was recognised by the court while also recognising living wills in India
