UPL Specialty Chemicals To Operate Independently Under Superform Chemistries

UPL Ltd. on Monday announced that its specialty chemicals division, UPL Specialty Chemicals Ltd., will now operate as a separate, independent entity under Superform Chemistries Ltd. This shift marks a strategic pivot, with the business segment now focusing on opportunities across diverse sectors, including agriculture, lubricants, flame retardants, mining, healthcare, and food and beverages.

Superform Chemistries, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UPL, previously concentrated 90% of its efforts on agrochemicals. Going forward, this will shift to 60% focus on agrochemicals, with 40% dedicated to exploring other industries and emerging opportunities, according to UPL Chairman and Group CEO Jai Shroff.

“We have unique platforms with capabilities to work on chemistries that are not commonly found in India, and we intend to leverage these strengths,” Shroff said. He added that Superform Chemistries is well-positioned to cater to the growing needs of the global and Indian chemical industries, which are expected to experience significant growth in the coming years.

With improving demand for specialty chemicals in various industries, UPL plans to expand its product offerings into sectors such as paints and dyes, flame retardants, oilfield chemicals, and polymers, the company’s management said.
