Tata Power Co. Ltd. on Friday said NHPC Ltd. has selected its unit, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd., to set up a battery energy storage system in Kerala for around ₹1.10 billion.
The project, structured as a long-term lease agreement, involves developing a 30 MW/120 MWh battery system at a substation in Kerala. The asset will be made available monthly for use by Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd. to store surplus energy, the company said in an exchange filing.
Execution is expected within 15 months, with an operational period of 12 years post commissioning. This is Tata Power Renewable Energy’s first battery storage deal with NHPC.
