Tata Chemicals Wins ₹7.8 Billion Land Dispute in Kenya

Tata Chemicals Ltd. on Monday said its subsidiary, Tata Chemicals Magadi Ltd., has won a legal case against the county government of Kajiado, Kenya, over land revenue arrears of ₹7.83 billion as of March 31.

In an order dated Friday, the Court of Appeal in Nairobi ruled that the county government’s demand was arbitrary and illegal, adding that the company is not obliged to pay the arrears without a transparent framework for determining land rates.

The amount currently forms part of Tata Chemicals’ contingent liabilities. The company said its management will decide on the matter after taking appropriate legal advice based on the judgment.
