Suzuki Motor Gujarat Gets ₹861 Million GST Demand; Says No Material Impact

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Friday said its wholly owned unit, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt Ltd, has received a tax demand of ₹861 million from the Gujarat GST authority for the period from April 2020 to August 2022.

The order relates to reverse charge tax liability on certain services, the parent company said in an exchange filing, adding that Suzuki Motor Gujarat had already paid the tax amount cited in the show-cause notice.

The appellate order also imposed ₹86 million in interest and penalties but allowed partial withdrawal of appeal for the July 2017–March 2020 period, which may qualify for an amnesty scheme.

Maruti clarified that the subsidiary would challenge the order and said the development is not expected to materially impact its financials or operations.
