Nippon Life India Asset Management on Monday named Andrew Holland as head of its newly-launched asset class, specialised investment funds.

Holland was earlier CEO at Avendus Capital Public Markets Alternate Strategies. Before that, he led Ambit Investment Advisors, where he helped build one of India’s largest hedge funds. At Nippon, he will report to Sailesh Raj Bhan, chief investment officer for equity investments.

NAM is the second fund house after Axis Mutual Fund to appoint a senior executive to drive its specialised investment fund foray. Other large asset managers are expected to follow, chasing early-mover advantage in this new category.

Nippon said the new offering bridges the gap between mutual funds and portfolio management services, with customised strategies and a minimum investment of ₹1 million, aimed at high-net-worth individuals looking for more flexibility.
