Angel One Sees Drop In New Clients, Order Volumes

Angel OneLtd. saw a significant year-on-year decline in new client additions and order volumes during the March quarter, even as its overall client base continued to grow.

Gross client acquisition for March stood at 470,000, down nearly 44% on year. For the full quarter, the number was 1.62 million, also down 44% from a year earlier. The brokerage’s client base, however, rose 39.5% on year to 31.02 million as of March.

The company processed an average of 5.37 million daily orders in March, a 27% decline from the previous year. In February, the figure was 4.96 million. Total orders handled in March stood at 102.08 million, down 23% on year.

For the quarter, average daily orders came in at 5.28 million, down almost 32% on year. Total orders processed during the quarter were 327.32 million, a 30.5% drop from a year ago.

Despite the fall in order volumes, the brokerage reported strong growth in turnover from certain segments. Average daily turnover, based on option premiums, was ₹856 billion in March, up more than 25% on year. Turnover from the futures and options segment declined 17.6% on year to ₹122 billion, while commodity turnover surged nearly 66% to ₹673 billion.
