The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed health-related concerns over mobile tower radiation and allowed Indus Towers Ltd. to go ahead with the installation of a tower in Tanang village, Maharashtra. The court noted that mobile phones have become a necessity across the country, including in remote areas, and mobile towers are essential infrastructure that cannot be discarded based on "misplaced information."
The dispute stemmed from a Tanang gram panchayat resolution cancelling the no-objection certificate earlier granted to Indus Towers, following protests from residents citing health risks. Indus Towers argued that it had already completed 90% of the installation work based on the initial clearance and had incurred significant expenses.
The court ruled in favour of the company, stating that the right to seamless communication must be ensured even in rural regions.
