India targeted air defence radars and systems in Pakistan, including in Lahore, in retaliation to Islamabad’s attempt to target military establishments in northern and western India.
It was reliably learnt that an air defence system at Lahore has been neutralised, said the Defence Ministry.
In a sign of escalation of tensions, Indian Armed Forces Thursday targeted air defence radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. India’s attack came after Islamabad attempted to engage military targets in northern and western India using drones and missiles on Wednesday night. “Indian response has been in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan,” an official release said.
Pakistan had on Wednesday night targeted a number of military establishments in India, including in Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj sectors.
The attacks were neutralised by the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems.
Indian armed forces had on Wednesday struck multiple terrorist infrastructure sites deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The strikes were aimed at neutralising specific buildings and structures linked to cross-border terror modules responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam massacre.
India’s strikes on Wednesday, launched as Operation Sindoor, came fifteen days after the gruesome attack by Pakistani terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians—25 Indians and one Nepali national—were killed. India had called its strikes “measured” and non-escalatory”.
India had not targeted any Pakistani military establishments on Wednesday and had warned that any attack on military targets in India will invite a suitable response.
India has accused Pakistan of resorting to incriminate of firing across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir using mortars and heavy calibre artillery. India said 16 innocent lives, including three women and five children, were lost in the Pakistani firing.
“Here too, India was compelled to respond to bring Mortar and Artillery fire from Pakistan to a halt,” the statement said.
India has reiterated its commitment to non-escalation, provided it is respected by the Pakistani military.
