ONGC Caps Mori-5 Well in Five Days After Jan 05 Blowout

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd said it has successfully established well control at Mori-5, completing the capping operation in a record five days.

The blowout occurred on Jan 05, 2026 during service operations at the well being handled by PEC contractor M S Deep Industries Ltd. ONGC said it immediately activated its in-house crisis management framework and deployed specialised manpower and equipment to contain the situation safely and swiftly.

The company said the successful capping marks the formal conclusion of field-level operations related to the Mori-5 incident and will be the final official update on the matter.

ONGC also acknowledged support from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, state and district authorities, and the local administration and community, saying their cooperation was critical to the timely resolution. The company reiterated its commitment to the highest standards of safety, environmental responsibility and operational excellence across its operations.
