Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Ltd. on Wednesday said the Department of Telecommunications – Maharashtra Licensed Service Area has slapped it with penalties totalling ₹38.13 million for not following subscriber verification norms.
The penalties include ₹34.03 million for the period from April 2007 to April 2012, and ₹4.10 million for March 2010, the company said in an exchange filing.
Under the terms of its licence, the company is required to carry out proper customer verification before enrolling subscribers and must follow DoT guidelines on the matter.
Tata Teleservices said it is currently reviewing the demand and evaluating the next steps. The financial impact, it added, is limited to the total penalty amount.
