Maruti Suzuki passenger vehicle despatches in May dropped nearly 6% year-on-year as sales declined across all sub-segments except vans and utility vehicles, the company said in an exchange filing on Monday. Total sales including exports rose 3% to 180,077 units.
Mini car sales, including Alto and S-Presso, fell sharply by almost 32% to 6,776 units. Compact cars such as Baleno, WagonR, Dzire, and Swift declined nearly 10% to 61,502 units, while Ciaz sales dropped to 458 units from 730 a year earlier.
Utility vehicles saw subdued growth of 1.3%, with 54,899 units sold. This segment includes Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, and XL6.
Domestic sales slipped just over 5% to 148,858 units. Exports rose strongly by 80% to 31,219 units. Vans also grew, with Eeco sales up nearly 13% to 12,327 units. Sales to other OEMs, mainly rebadged vehicles sold by Toyota India, fell 3% to 10,168 units.
