Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd. crushed 9.92 million tonnes of sugarcane in the 2024-2025 sugar season, down 1.8% from 10.1 million tonnes in the previous year, the company said in a press release on Tuesday. The company’s financial year runs from October to September.
The mill concluded crushing operations for the season on Sunday, Balrampur Chini Mills said in an exchange filing.
Lower cane output in major states like Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh weighed on crushing volumes this season, the company said.
The mill diverted 10.7% of sugarcane syrup towards ethanol production, sharply up from 3.7% last season. Sugarcane routed through B-heavy molasses was at 51.4%, slightly lower than 53.8% a year ago, while diversion towards C-heavy molasses dropped to 37.9% from 42.6%.
Net sugar production, after diversions, declined to 924,000 tonnes from 1.06 million tonnes last season. Net sugar recovery slipped to 9.32% from 10.46%, while gross recovery before any diversion was 11.28%, against 11.72% a year ago. The diversion for ethanol impacted sugar recovery by 1.96 percentage points, the company said.
