Bajaj Auto Ltd.'s sales volume fell 6% on year in April to 365,810 units, after rising in the previous three months. The decline was mainly due to a 7% drop in two-wheeler sales, which also reversed a three-month growth trend.

The April performance was below analyst expectations. Nomura had projected a 4% decline, while Nuvama Institutional Equities expected flat sales.

The company disclosed the figures before the market opened on Friday.

Domestic business remained weak, with sales falling 11% to 220,615 units after marginal growth in March. Two-wheeler sales in India dropped 13%, while exports rose nearly 4%. Total two-wheeler sales stood at 317,937 units, down 7% on year.

The commercial vehicles segment fared better. Sales rose 3% on year to 47,873 units, with exports up nearly 11% and domestic volumes slightly lower.

Exports continued to be a bright spot, rising 4% on year to 145,195 units, marking the 17th straight month of growth.
